Dr Silvia Bolognin
Researcher, Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine;
University of Luxembourg
Dr Bolognin is a pharmaceutical chemist by training and holds a Ph.D. in tissue and grafting engineering. After completing her post-doctoral training in several laboratories in Italy and USA, she is now senior researcher at the University of Luxembourg. Her field of investigation is neurodegeneration in Alzheimer and Parkinson’s Disease (PD).
In the last years, her research efforts have focused on the development of 3D brain models to better study PD. Using stem cell technology, she studies how genetic mutations responsible for familiar forms of the disease can determine neuronal cell death. She is in particular working at the optimization of 3D cultivation systems, including organ-on-chip technology, as enabling tools for advanced disease modeling and drug testing.
