2016 Cruciblist

Pablo’s research interests are signal & image processing and analysis, statistical signal and image modelling, pattern recognition, and computer vision, with applications to different fields, especially telecommunications, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and Biomedical Engineering.

Pablo has published 58 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters with an overall number of citations above 150: 16 journals indexed in SCI Journal Citation Reports, 22 international conferences, 13 domestic conferences, 3 invited talks, and 4 book chapters. Additionally, he has participated in 25 research projects and contracts at European, national and regional level, with a cumulative budget close to £2 million (principal investigator in 6 of them). He is also a reviewer for several scientific journals such as IEEE Sensors and Magnetic Resonance Imaging and has participated as a committee member in a number of international conferences in his research field.

Dr. Casaseca is currently leading the multidisciplinary project Smartcough, which has been funded with £90k by DHI Scotland and involves academic, industry, and civic partners. The Smartcough projects aims at the development of efficient solutions for cough monitoring of respiratory patients using smartphones. Additionally, Dr. Casaseca is leading the Thales/CENSIS AALART project, a 1-year project jointly funded by industry (Thales Optronics Ltd.) and CENSIS with £86k. The AALART project aims at the development of algorithms for the detection and recognition of extremely-low resolution targets in thermal imaging using super resolution and deep learning techniques. Finally, Dr. Casaseca is leading a joint Royal Society of Edinburgh-National Science Foundation of China joint project aiming at flood monitoring and prevention using hyperspectral imaging acquired from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
