Dr Hilmar Hinz
Research scientist of the Spanish National Research Council, Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA)
Hilmar Hinz is a marine ecologist of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) based at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) on Mallorca. His main research focuses on marine conservation and fisheries sciences. Within the context of his research he has been providing evidence-based science to improve the environmental management of our shared seas.
One important component of Hilmar´s work is to translate ecological knowledge into workable solutions. Through this he is increasingly working with engineers and information scientists to develop new technologies for environmental monitoring and human impact mitigation. An important aspect of solution finding is also to engage with social and political questions. Hilmar therefore has a great interest in working with social and political scientists.
Hilmar spent considerable time working for various institutions in Germany (Senckenberg Institute) and the UK (Bangor University and the MBA in Plymouth) prior to settling in Spain. Hilmar held a Marie Curie and a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship, and was a Co-chair of the ICES working group COMEDA between 2013-2019.
