Dr Damien Rontani

Assistant Professor at CentraleSupélec

Damien Rontani was born in Clamart, France. He received his Engineering diplôma in Electrical Engineering (Supélec Curriculum) and a Master in Information Science, Energy and Systems from CentraleSupélec – Université Paris-Saclay (France) in 2004 and 2006, respectively. In parallel, he received his Master of Science (MSc.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech, USA) in 2005. In 2011, he defended his joint Ph.D. in Photonics and Electrical and Computer Engineering at CentraleSupélec (France) and Georgia Tech (USA). He was then a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Physics Department at Duke University (USA) from 2011 to 2013. He received his Habilitation to conduct research (H.D.R.) from Université Paris-Saclay (France) in 2021.

Since December 2013, he has been an assistant professor at CentraleSupélec. There, he conducts leading-edge research in nonlinear dynamics of photonics systems, nonlinear optics, and machine learning at the physical layer for innovative applications in neuro-inspired information processing and cognitive computing. His research is realized within the framework of the Chair in Photonics in the LMOPS EA-4423 Laboratory, a joint research unit between CentraleSupélec and the Université de Lorraine (France).

In his is academic career, he had been the recipient of an IBM Faculty Award in Cognitive Computing in 2015 and a JSPS Fellowship for Overseas Researchers from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in 2016. He has authored and co-authored more than 30 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and more than 60 contributions in international conferences.
