Dr Stefano de Paoli

Stefano De Paoli is Professor of Digital Society (from August 2020) at Abertay University in Dundee. Stefano joined Abertay in September 2013 and he has been happily working there since then. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Trento (Italy) obtained in 2008, with a dissertation on the organisational aspects of Open Source Software communities. His current research interests are in the areas of Design of Online Communities, Social Innovation and Cybersecurity. Stefano’s teaching mainly revolves around the subjects of Digital Sociology, Cybercrime and Surveillance. Stefano has substantial experience in conducting managing local, national and European projects. He is currently involved in the European Horizon2020 project TRIPLE which aims at delivering a discovery platform for Social Sciences and Humanities (https://www.gotriple.eu/). In TRIPLE Stefano is the leader the Work Package “User Research and Co-Design”. Stefano also is involved in the H2020 project Foresight (https://foresight-h2020.eu/) in the area of Digital Security. Other current projects are the Digital Commons Scotland project (EPSRC funded and led by Stirling University) and the project Mapping for Social Innovation which he leads together with his colleague Iain Donald. Previously, Stefano led the research Work Packages in other European projects such STEP (completed in December 2017) and PIE News (Completed in June 2019). He also was involved in the European Framework Programme 7 project Wikirate.
