Dr Olga Barrera

Senior lecturer, Oxford Brookes University;
Research fellow, University of Oxford

Dr Barrera is a prominent scientist who spent the past 13 years working at the Department of Engineering Science and at the Nuffield Department of Orthopedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, University Of Oxford.

She was a Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellow at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), University of Luxembourg until June 2020. She currently holds a faculty post at Oxford Brookes University, UK and she is a consultant in the Department of Medical Research, China Medical University Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan. Dr Barrera obtained around 1M euro in research funding as PI/co-I so far. She managed to support her posts through bringing her own projects from 2014-2020. Among her responsibilities, she is the subject coordinator of the engineering school (managing more than 60 modules) as well as a senior research fellow at the University of Oxford, UK. Dr Barrera is currently leading a team of 10 Early career researchers and three laboratories (University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University).

Dr Barrera is currently leading two major grant applications submitted for funding form EPSRC (UK) and FNR (Luxembourg) with partners from LIH, University of Luxembourg, LIST, University of Oxford and University of Sheffield on data-driven modelling of complex material systems such soft tissues.

Dr Barrera has experience in working in industrial/energy environments and in more applied research institutions. She has taken on several managerial responsibilities over the years and her objective is to constantly improve herself and push the boundaries of whatever she tackles.
